Facts about Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is actually a naturally occurring state. Have you ever been absorbed in a book and simply unaware of what's going on around you? That's a very similar psychological state – one of deep absorption and focussed attention.

Hypnosis is a calm easy state that allows your unconscious mind to accept positive suggestions and it allows us to use our imagination to bring about change.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis – you are always in control. And it is not like being asleep or unconscious. Hypnosis is simply a way of releasing some of the unhelpful and debilitating beliefs and assumptions that we have acquired as we go through life and re-enforcing new more helpful beliefs. Hypnotic suggestion is a means of experiencing certain helpful ideas at a level profound enough to directly influence our emotions and behaviour.

Hypnosis is completely safe when used in a responsible and professional manner. Nobody has ever been ‘stuck’ in hypnosis.

Stage hypnosis has very little to do with clinical hypnotherapy and has been shown to foster misconceptions which prevent people from benefiting from the sessions. Take what you see on TV with a generous pinch of salt.

Thousands of positive experimental and clinical research studies have been published on hypnosis. It was recognised as an effective treatment by the British Medical Association (BMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) in the 1950’s and more recently by the American Psychological Association and the NICE guidance used by the NHS.

Through this training you will develop the ability to ‘tune out’ distractions and give birth in a calm and relaxing atmosphere, without the fear and tension that causes pain. It will allow your body and mind to work together as nature intended, your body’s natural analgesia replacing the stress hormones that create pain. Your body knows how to give birth !

“Very moving, amazing bringing our baby into the world. Strengthened mine and my husband’s relationship, we were a fantastic team.”

I knew exactly what to expect and was able to imagine what was happening. Felt calm during labour and know I can do it again.”
